Faculty Schools
The Faculty is based in Newton Rigg, Penrith and Ambleside, and is home to the following Schools and Centres:
National School of Forestry|
Based on a strong industry background, the School was founded in 1960s by an agreement to locate national forestry training at Newton Rigg, Penrith. The staff| provide a wide range of courses| and undertake their own research|.
Centre for Wildlife Conservation|
This comprises a small group of staff at Newton Rigg, Penrith who are highly active in research and teaching.
International Centre for the Uplands|
Based at Penrith and established in 2004, the Centre has a remit to support upland communities and landscapes and to help them develop a sustainable future.
School of Outdoor Studies|
This will include the Outdoor Studies provision at Ambleside and the Outdoor Leadership provision at Newton Rigg, Penrith. With a strong portfolio and impressive facilities, it will increasingly develop its enterprise capability.
Centre for Outdoor Management Education and Training (COMET)|
The Centre supports Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) and provides an integrated approach to training in management and career development.
School of Vocational Skills|
This will comprise three sections: Science & Technology; Land Management; Childhood, Health, Education & Sport.
Further Education provision increases opportunities for student progression and addresses county needs for training in specialist areas, linking into local and regional priorities. The School will also support work at the Lakeland Learning Centre, Cockermouth.
Centre of Vocational Excellence (CoVE) for Forestry and Arboriculture|
The CoVE at Penrith involves a partnership with Myerscough College, supported by the Learning and Skills Council. The Centre is designed to raise skill levels through high quality vocational work-based training and to extend links with industry.
