Welcome to the Faculty of Science and Natural Resources at the University of Cumbria. Study of the natural and engineering sciences is key to shaping our sustainable future and, linked to this, the celebration and understanding of our landscape through outdoor studies ensures that we maintain and promote a sustainable future for our environment.
At the Newton Rigg and Ambleside campuses we are at the heart of rural communities and our facilities include farm, fell and forest as well as laboratory space and an award winning eco library building. Changes in rural communities over recent decades, and the pressures of the future under climate change, mean we need to take a fresh look at how we manage and use the land and how we integrate the science of resource management with the social and economic drivers of change and the opportunities afforded by emerging technological and engineering solutions.
Graduate and Postgraduate courses and research is carried out in the following Schools and Centres within the Faculty:

Whilst we connect with further education courses via the School of Vocational Skills|.
The wide ranging interests and research activities of our lecturing staff ensures the necessary interdisciplinary approach that will give you key skills for your chosen career path in the workplace after graduation. We offer a flexible approach to many of our courses, with full time, part time, distance learning and block study options available on some courses. You can study towards a degree at graduate or postgraduate level, or a vocational qualification within the School of Vocational Skills|. January enrollments are currently available for some courses.
Staff| are actively involved in a wide range of research. We hold a regular seminar series |and we place a great deal of importance on linking our research with local and regional development needs via a range of external links and partnerships. This method of working also provides a range of graduate employment opportunities.
